My name is Joe, I live in Duluth. I do all of my running on trails, mostly near my home. I run on the Superior Hiking Trail, Western Waterfront, Munger and the Magney-Snively Park trails from my front door. I enjoy other runners' blogs, so here is a little blog of my own.

January 11, 2012: Superior Trail 50k in May

I just submitted my entry into the Superior Trail 50k race in May. I have run the 25k there in '08 and '09. And I covered those trails in the Moose Mountain Marathon in '08. So I know the kind of terrain I am up against. I am looking forward to it. I plan on pushing myself, but not breaking myself. The real goal for me is to finish the Voyageur in July.

Lately, I have been pounding my treadmill for about 40 minutes at a time, and have done a little skate skiing, too. The weather has been so nice, I work outside and it has been really great. Now I hope we get a little snow for skiing.

December 27, 2011: I'm running the Voyageur.

I have been a runner and a cross country skier ever since 1993. I have always kept myself in respectable shape, but over the last 2 years I have let myself go. So I need a new goal, a big new reason to get back in shape. I've been thinking about running the Voyageur for 4 years now, and this is going to be my year to do it. I have decided to run the 50 mile Voyageur in 2012.

I have been a big fan of runner's blogs about their ultra running adventures for a few years now. I have experienced so many ultra races through my computer screen through blogs like: The Northland runner blogs, Davy Crockett, Julie Berg, AJW, Steve Quick, and more. I just want to run my own 50 miler and experience it for real.

I won't be running every day. I won't be logging huge miles. I will just get out when I can get out. This winter I will be doing more cross country skiing than running, but along the way I hope to improve my fitness. I plan on skiing the Nordic Spirit race, and the Birkie. In the spring I plan on running some races like the Bull Run, Western Waterfront, and The Magney Snively run. I also plan on running the Spring Superior Trail 50k at Lutsen. And doing whatever I can to avoid running injuries (easier said than done).

With this blog I will share some of my experiences from here through race day. And then probably quit blogging after that. See you out on the trails.
