From the Back of the Pack

Eve

I might always be in the back of the running pack, but I'm addicted to it! When I miss more than a day it affects my energy, attitude, and the rest of life in general! I have had a lot of "character" building runs in the deep snow, extreme nose hair freezing cold, ankle high rain, and gale force winds over the past twenty five years and find some of those days to be the most peaceful rewarding outings of all! I'm one of those runners who is slow and steady, but goes forever and ever without ever getting tired.

June 19, 2009: Escape the Grandma's hysteria!

This morning's run on the magnificently peacefull hills of the Yellow trail of the Superior, also known as Brown's Point, was the perfect temporary escape from the mass invasion of runners in the Duluth area!  Unlike the remainder of my day will be, it was perfect solitude!  My pooch and I had the entire trail system to ourselves!

As we ran through the wet, waist high grassy trails, the sun peeked through the treetops, my shoes got wet, and the ticks  had a field day!  Underneath the grass were  no horsetracks, only dry even ground with good footing, nothing technical to worry about hiding under the 3 foot blades!

If you are one of the "retired" Grandma's runners or have chosen to avoid it for a different reason and are seeking some peace and quiet, head out to the  Yellow trail...it's guaranteed to relax the soul!

Eve, thank you for encouraging me to have Maya run in the Whippersnapper!!! We did it and she LOVED!!! her first race. Thanks also to Shelly for cheering us on and taking care of our stuff. It was a fantastic experience....when she crossed the finish line, she threw her hands in the air and said, "I ran, I ran a race!"

Thank you.

I decided not to do grandmas this year. It's a fun race, but the entry fee found has gotten to high for my taste. I was also fed up with the amount of crap that I got from last years race, tons of mailings, a big book with everybody's times, and all the crap you get when you pick up your bib.  I don't mind the expo so much because you have some choice in the stuff you want to take home. I think I'm gonna stick to the races where all I spend is a few dollars and perhaps take away some memories and possibly a shirt. I might have to go check out the yellow trail tomarrow. Is it just me or is there a tick invasion this year? I can't seem to do a run without picking up atleast a few.

Tick invasion....major ticks!  South Range has hundreds more than the yellow trail did though!

I video taped many people today...some only their backside because it was so hard to pick people out in the crowd!  I plan to download and give the link as soon as my camera recharges!  Good job everyone...I think it was the hottest one I've felt and I didn't even run!

Hi, Eve - Apologies if I was a little terse as I passed you today while you were filming. I was a little frustrated at having to manage a bit of a bum ankle, probably wasn't very photogenic at that point.

Thanks for being out there.

Heck...I felt bad for everyone today!!  That stretch I was sitting on was the hottest part with no breeze too!  You looked marvelous by the way...!!  I think I got it on Facebook but it's not let me put it on Youtube so far for some reason...I can normally put them on easily!
