DULUTH, MN - Registration is now open for northern Minnesota’s oldest road race – the 39th annual Park Point 5-Miler scheduled for Friday, July 16.

For the first time, the race’s registration process is being conducted exclusively online with paper entry forms no longer being printed. Participants can register or find more information at either GrandmasMarathon.com or YoungAthletesFoundation.com. Another new feature for 2010 is the addition of chip timing for the five-mile run.

“Adding online registration and chip timing are important race improvements for the Park Point event and we are excited to put them in place,” said Scott Keenan, executive director of Grandma’s Marathon. “Implementing these changes will simplify and enhance the overall race experience for the participants.”

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with youth races for children 14 and under, followed by the two-mile walk at 6:15 p.m., and then the five-mile feature race at 6:30 p.m. The entry for the 5-mile run and 2-mile walk is $25, while the youth races are free.

All finishers in the run and walk receive a commemorative T-shirt and awards are presented to the top finishers. Ribbons are awarded to youth race runners upon completion of their event.

Net proceeds from the Park Point 5-Miler benefit the Young Athletes Foundation (YAF), a Grandma’s Marathon program focused on the promotion and development of youth athletics.

The Park Point 5-Miler is sponsored by Anytime Fitness, Carenorth, City of Duluth, Duluth News Tribune, Duluth Running Company, Fitger’s, Maurices, Minnesota Power, MIX 108, Northland’s NewsCenter, Sam’s Club, St. Luke’s and The Shack Smokehouse and Grille.

January 5, 2010: Welcome 2010

Happy New Year!

We here at Northland Runner hope all of you had an enjoyable New Year.  With the holiday festivities behind us, it's time to start thinking about the upcoming race season.  We are currently working on gathering race information for 2010.  We have many major races listed already, and we hope to get as much information as we can about small-town races in the next couple weeks.  If we listed a race last year, you can be sure we are contacting the event director to get the 2010 info.  If you know of a new race or one we did not list last year, feel free to e-mail Kris at kris@northlandrunner.com.

Welcome to 2010!
