Lisa Messerer of Duluth is organizing a group run on New Year's Day in the Duluth/Superior area. Lisa's message:

 

Ring in the new year with a trail run!!

New Year Day's Trail Run

Time and location to be decided by group consensus and recent snowfall amounts (if any).

Suggested Location: Guardrail Loop - Hartley Nature Center- this trail sees a fair amount of foot and bike traffic and is usually pretty runnable, though I have not spoken with anyone who has been out there of late.

Alternate site:

1. SHT- Split Rock River Loop - again, high traffic area, but more of a drive.

Time frame: mid-morning to mid-afternoon, remembering that the light goes around 4:00 pm or so and trail running could be a bit slow.

We here at Northland Runner are sponsoring a running group in the Duluth area this winter.  With this weather, it can be tough to get motivated to run outdoors, so come run with us and beat those winter blues.  The runs will take place on the Lakewalk every Sunday morning at 8:00am.  We will meet in the big parking lot in Canal Park across from Amazing Grace.  There will be at least one person there every Sunday, and people of all running abilities are welcome.  Questions can be directed to Kris at 218-390-4784.

Eve Stein is organizing a speaker to come to Duluth and give a seminar on ChiRunning.  ChiRunning is a running technique based on T'ai Chi and is supposed to improve your form and decrease your injuries.  See Eve's blog entry for more information.

Jarrow Wahman has volunteered to spend the winter compiling the historical NMTC Fall Trail Series results.  Jarrow is entering all the results into spreadsheet format and keeping track of the top times from each race.  He has found all the results for the past twenty-five years except for those from the year 1999.   Does anyone out there have the 1999 results?  It is quite possible he handed out copies of the final results at the last race.  If you happen to have a mint condition 1999 copy stored in your hermetically sealed vault next to your Kirby Puckett rookie card, Jarrow would love the opportunity to examine it (the results, not the card).  You can reach Jarrow at the Austin-Jarrow shoe store at 218-722-1185.
