Due to the expected snowstorm tonight, the Earth Week 4 Mile Run/Walk in Ely has been postponed. The run was originally scheduled for tomorrow morning. The new date is May 3rd. All other details remain the same.

Race Information: Earth Week 4 Mile Run/Walk

The Stride Into Spring 10k and 5k took place on Saturday, April 20th, in Bemidji. The races started and finished at the Gillett Recreation Center on the campus of Bemidji State University. Runners enjoyed a sunny day with temperatures in the high 40s and low 50s. Both the 5k and 10k courses were out-and-back routes on Birchmont Drive.

Jess Frenzel attended the event for the first time and ran the 5k race. Jess enjoyed the excellent running weather and flat course. Jess has been training for the last few weeks, running a few miles at a time. Jess felt that his ability to complete the 5k race was somewhat in question, so he ran three miles the night before just to be sure.

René McKercher and Greg Ramey also ran the 5k course. Both René and Greg attend the event every year. Both ran the race during the snow storm of 2002, so they were much appreciative of the sunny weather this year. René and Greg are well-traveled running enthusiasts. Last year René ran the Marathon du Médoc, a marathon run through 59 vineyards in France. In 2000, Greg participanted in New Zealand's Millennium Marathon, the first marathon of the millennium. He is undecided if he will run the next one. René and Greg enjoy supporting local races and look forward to running the Jack Pine Classic in Bemidji in September.

Registration for this year's Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon opens on Friday, April 18th. This year the registration process is entire online.
