September 29, 2010: Rock Hill
Rock Hill, the 5th race of the NMTC Fall Trail Series, took place today at the Bagley Nature Center in Duluth. A record 154 runners ran the course amidst the wonderful fall colors.
Gabrielle Cyr won the women's race with a time of 24:03. Gabrielle's time placed 7th on the Rock Hill Best Times List. Six other women also made the list: Kim Holak, Leslie Semler, Emily Dunn, Catherine Long, Jill Anderson, and Samantha Carlson.
Eric Atkinson ran the course in 20:13 to win the men's race. Eric's time was good enough for 10th place on the best times list. Also qualifying for the list were Jason Lindelof, Curtis Wheeler, Matt Kramer, and David Hyopponen.
Due to the increased popularity of the series this year, we have had to make a slight adjustment to the scoring rules. For the first time, over 100 people men participated, which means awarding 100 points for first place is no longer feasible. First place for each gender will now receive 150 points, second place 149 points, third place 148 points, etc. We have made this scoring change to the previous four races of the Fall Series as well.
The women's point standings are still neck-and-neck. Samantha Carlson increased her lead by one point again this week. She now leads Aga Bednarz by four points. The top 5 women are:
1. 732 pts - Samantha Carlson
2. 728 pts - Aga Bednarz
3. 697 pts - Andrea Ring
4. 669 pts - Katee Rosburg
5. 658 pts - Emily Bandli
The men's point standings are even closer. Matt Kramer has a one point lead over Jason Lindelof. The top 5 men are:
1. 740 pts - Matt Kramer
2. 739 pts - Jason Lindelof
3. 721 pts - Erik Rupert
4. 718 pts - Tyler Kjorstad (tie)
4. 718 pts - Jakob Wartman (tie)

I'm looking for men and woman runners to run against my high school team in the second annual Superior High School Alumni Race on Tuesday, September 28th (next Tuesday). The men run 5k and the women run 4000 meters. The men's race is at 4:00 and the women's is at 4:30. Our idea of alumni is anyone who has driven through Superior. The site is the Nemadj Golf Course in South Superior.
