October 31, 2010: Pine Valley
Pine Valley, the 9th and final race of the NMTC Fall Trail Series, took place today in Cloquet. Congratulations to Samantha Carlson and Tom O'Rourke for capturing the female and male titles. It was the first series win for both Samantha and Tom.
Thank you, everyone, for participating this fall. It's great to see the usual suspects at these races and some new faces as well. Have a great winter, everyone - see you next year!

HARTMARK REPEATS VICTORY AT PUMPKIN RUN
CLOQUET, MN - A record field of 300 registered runners and walkers participated in the fifth annual Pumpkin Run and Walk Five-Kilometer Race held at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in Cloquet on Saturday, October 23.
Eric Hartmark of Duluth led all runners to the finish in a time of 16:41 and became the first repeat winner of the event. Jerimy Hallsten of Esko was second and Clint Agar of Duluth was third overall. In the women's division, Jenny Johnsen of Carlton placed first with a time of 20:07. Amy Green of Wrenshall was second and Erika Heins of Duluth finished in third place.
Many of the race participants helped celebrate the theme and season of the Pumpkin Run event by wearing costumes or orange and black clothing. Costume prize winners were given to a Whoopie Cushion, snowboarder Shaun White, Kitty Cat Girl, the Star Wars Family, a Power Ranger, and "Erica" Hartmark.
The race course started on campus and then followed 14th Street going south to the Valley View neighborhood and then turned around on Harner Lane and returned along 14th Street to the campus.
Local businesses helped sponsor the race through prize and refreshment donations, including Super One Foods, Wal-Mart, Duluth Running Company, The Athlete's Foot, Culligan Water, Great Harvest Bread Co., Austin-Jarrow, Grandma's Marathon, Moe and Nevin Insurance Adjusters, Cub Foods and Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Foundation.

Congratulations to Elaine Nelson for breaking the women's course record at the Lester Park Run yesterday. Elaine ran a 42:55, besting Jen Houck's time of 43:23 in 2009. Besides Elaine, Connie Lutkevich (47:56), Samantha Carlson (48:28), Christi Nowak (49:05), and Juliana Bertelsen (49:24) also qualified for the Lester Park Best Time List.
In the point standings, Samantha Carlson increased her lead. The top 5 women are:

On the men's side, Curtis Wheeler was the fastest man with a time of 38:51. Curtis' time was also good enough for the best time list. We have a new leader in the point standings as Tom O'Rourke captured the lead for the first time this year. The top 5 men are:

Remember that after the last race, all runners drop their lowest score. Runners who missed a race drop 0 points. Runners who attended all races receive a 25 point bonus.
The last race of the series takes place on Sunday at Pine Valley in Cloquet. Bring some food to share at the pot luck and award ceremony after the race. See you there!
